One of the best nectar sources for bees and butterflies
Black Knapweed, also known as Common Knapweed, is one of the very best plants for supporting pollinators. Its deep purple, thistle-like blooms are nectar-rich and attract a huge diversity of bees, butterflies, day-flying moths and beetles. Flowering from mid-summer into autumn, it helps extend the meadow’s seasonal interest. It is a hardy, upright perennial that adds height, structure and a natural, countryside meadow feel. Even its seed heads are attractive to finches later in the season.
